Migrants Rights and Surveillance: GPS tagging update

Wednesday 1st May 2024 | 17:30, Online via Zoom

Surveillance technology is being deployed by the Home Office for immigration enforcement with limited scrutiny. This webinar will discuss the first two decisions scrutinising the Home Office’s use of GPS technology on migrants: (1) Nelson v SSHD, which found that the Home Office’s use of GPS tagging in his case breached his Article 8 ECHR rights; and, (2) the ICO decision which found that the Home Office's pilot project of GPS tagging new arrivals was in breach of data protection law.

Speakers will include:

Donnchadh Greene, Doughty Street Chambers

Katie Schwarzmann, Wilsons Solicitors

Lucie Audibert, Privacy International

Sarah Hannett KC, Matrix Chambers, will chair the webinar.
